Summer Parent Letter 2008-09
August 5, 2008
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Greetings to you all. I hope you are having a fun and restful summer with your family. We are busy getting everything ready for the new school year. I would like to inform you of some exciting changes occurring, as usual.
As many of you are aware, our mission at Landmark Academy is our true heartbeat - a very important promise to you that we take seriously. In pursuit of that mission, we have established some very aggressive academic goals for the year. We are continuing to increase our learning styles expertise, certifying all of our teachers and teaching assistants. We have high expectations for another exciting and successful year – our tenth!
We have scheduled a “highly encouraged to attend” parent meeting for Thursday, August 21, 2008 in the Cross Current Building Auditorium, which will begin promptly at 6:00P.M. This meeting is mandatory for incoming 9th grade students and their parents.
Our agenda includes tours of the K-5 building, the second floor of the Cross Current Building (Middle School and High School), and introductions to all of our staff. We intend to provide you with a solid understanding of Landmark Academy’s goals, philosophy, and especially our secret weapon - learning styles. Because of the nature of this meeting, we ask that your children remain home (except 9th grade students). Your children will be able to join us for our back to school picnic, which is scheduled for August 26 from 5:00P.M. until 8:00P.M. at the Beach Road Park (Click here for details).
Here are a few additional changes for the 2008-09 school year:
• In order to help alleviate congested traffic during drop off and pick up times, we have changed the start and end time for each building. The K-2 students will begin school at 8:15A.M. and end at 3:25P.M. The 3rd through 5th students will begin at 8:00A.M. and end at 3:10P.M. Grades 6th through 10th (in the MS/HS building) will begin at 7:45A.M. and end at 2:55P.M. We will also have a new procedure for drop off and pick up that will foster more safety & forward movement, especially in the morning. More details will be forwarded to you at orientation.
• A new Latchkey program will be in place for this school year. You can access the details on our website.
• We are starting a new software program called “Skyward.” This is a program that we have felt would be a great asset to all of our staff, and especially our parents. You will be able to use the internet to review a variety of information on your child – attendance, grades, assignments, and more. More details will be covered in orientation. In each building, for those of you who do not have access to computers, we will have designated computers for you to retrieve information about your child.
Since our growing school places increasing demands on our curriculum coordinator, we have made adjustments to ensure that Miss Gardner can devote 100% of her time to enhancing our K-10 curriculum. We have promoted Miss Graham to the Middle School/High School Building Leader position to fill Miss Gardner’s shoes. Attached is a roster of our teaching staff for the upcoming year.
As I mentioned, more details will be shared at the back-to-school orientation. If you need to, you can view student supply lists here and the dress code in our handbooks here.
As always, thank you for all of your support in making Landmark such an exceptional learning environment. Thanks to you and an incredible staff, we are truly redefining education. Please do not hesitate to call me if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Nancy Gardner
Executive Administrator
